What was your priority when creating your nursery space?
My biggest goal was for the space to feel warm and inviting—to set a soothing and welcoming tone for her arrival. When you think about it, it must be so jarring for babies to come into the world after being in the womb for nine months. I wanted soft textures and quiet colors so that she’d feel enveloped in a sense of comfort and ease.

What is your favorite piece in your nursery?
I’m awfully fond of the chair we chose. It’s comfortable for nursing and has great back support. Instead of rocking, it swivels—which I find equally as soothing but fun and unexpected too. Plus, it’s stylish enough that we can use it well past these early stages in her life. That nubby boucle upholstery is so cozy!

How do you create the perfect sleeping environment for your child?
We actually hired a sleep consultant when she was a few weeks old because Halo wasn’t napping well and we had no idea what to do! The consultant gave us the recipe for a perfect “sleep cave”, and it’s been a game-changer. We hid blackout curtains behind our linen shades, and we downloaded some womb sounds like white noise to play on the SONOS speaker. As well, the consultant advised a constant temperature between 74-76 degrees Fahrenheit, so thank goodness we have a ceiling fan to keep the air circulating and cool!

Are there any aspects of your nursery you would change in hindsight?
It’s a bit hard to know since she’s still so little and I’m not sure what will prove useful as she grows. But in general, I think we could have done with even less “stuff”. The truth is that you need very little to keep a baby healthy and happy—and in fact, more things just make the space feel messy and crowded when you’re hanging out there with a baby all day!
